Dr. Michael Rich is the Director of the Center on Media and Child Health at Children’s Hospital in Boston, Harvard Medical School, and Harvard School of Public Health. As a former Hollywood filmmaker, he loves media, but as a pediatrician, he sees that media has both positive and negative effects on children’s health. Dr. Rich spoke in Winnetka in 2008, at an event jointly sponsored by The Alliance and North Shore Country Day School. Since that time, he has written articles for The Alliance newsletter and has served as an informal consultant to The Alliance on children and the media. Adding a link to “Ask the Mediatrician” on The Alliance website is a service provided by Dr. Rich and The Alliance to provide science-based answers and practical solutions that can advise parents and help children use media in ways that enrich their development.
